CLUE presented the "Ultra-low cost sensor platform and integration," highlighting two projects exploring the functionality of low cost electronics in sensing and IoT applications.  Shyuan Yang leads both projects, and won Best Demo at the meeting from over 100 participating groups.

Plugstrate: Plugstrate delivers a lightwight sensor network with a <$4 bill of materials including signal conditioning, integrated antennas, and power supply.  The system is currently configured for Zigbee communication and deployment in energy auditing applications.

Dollar Sensor: An ultra-low cost (<$1) chemical sensor that uses a direct USB connection and printable sensor materials to eliminate the need for a reader or  user interface while delivering quality, digital readout of chemical species.  A humidity sensor was demonstrated on the floor, and several other sensors are currently in development (including a glucose sensor, a device for ammonia vapor detection, and detection of ketones).

This projects were partially funded by PowerBridge NYC (Plugstrate) and the FlexTech Alliance (Dollar Sensor).

Other participants on the project also include Fabio Carta, Johannes Bintinger, and Sejal Jain.  Rigers Qeraj from Radiator Labs also participated in the wireless monitor project.
